Short Biography

Tulsi Gabbard is an American politician, military veteran, and public policy advocate. Born on April 12, 1981, in Leloaloa, American Samoa, she was the first Hindu elected to the U.S. Congress, serving as the Representative for Hawaii’s 2nd Congressional District from 2013 to 2021.

A veteran of the U.S. Army National Guard, she served two tours of duty in the Middle East.

Known for her independent approach to politics, Tulsi ran for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2020 and later left the Democratic Party in 2022. She is an advocate for environmental conservation, veterans' rights, and foreign policy reform.

Gabbard joined the Republican party in October 2024.

In November 2024, President-elect Donald Trump announced that he had chosen Lieutenant Colonel Tulsi Gabbard to serve as the director of national intelligence in his second term.

Married to cinematographer Abraham Williams, Tulsi practices Hinduism and draws inspiration from the Bhagavad Gita.
